On April 4, 2025, I will be cutting 20 cm of my hair as part of the Leucan Challenge, a fundraising initiative to support children with cancer. This cause has taken on a deeply personal meaning for me following an unexpected event: my mother’s cancer diagnosis.

In November 2024, my mother was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer after a routine scan. When she shared the news with us, it was a shock to our entire family and close friends. A cancer diagnosis is life-changing—it brings uncertainty, fear, and a long journey ahead. But as we learned more and received support, we realized we were not alone in this fight (she is doing well).

Back in high school, I knew two young men battling leukemia, and sadly, one of them passed away 3 months after his diagnosis. Experiencing this up close changed my perspective on cancer. I saw the strength it takes to fight, the impact it has on families, and the importance of support systems. But when cancer affects your own family, it’s an entirely different reality—surreal and overwhelming. It’s something you never expect to happen so close to home, and when it does, you don’t know how to react at first. You go through waves of emotions—fear, hope, frustration—but one thing becomes clear: no one should have to go through this alone.

That is why I have chosen to participate in the Leucan Challenge. By taking part in this initiative, I want to make a difference, raise awareness, and contribute to a cause that provides essential support to children and families affected by cancer. Leucan does incredible work, offering financial aid, psychological support, and research funding to improve treatments and care. They help families navigate one of the hardest journeys they will ever face, and I want to do my part in supporting their mission.

This challenge is not just about cutting my hair—it’s about solidarity, resilience, and hope. It’s a small action that carries a powerful message: we stand with those affected by cancer, and we are committed to making a difference.

I dedicate this challenge to my mother, the strongest woman I know, who continues to share her experience with courage and determination. I also dedicate it to Francis, a beautiful soul taken from us too soon, and to all the children and families fighting cancer every day.

If you would like to support this cause, I invite you to contribute to my fundraising page. Every donation, big or small, helps provide crucial resources to families in need. If you are unable to donate, simply sharing my page and spreading awareness can make a huge difference.
